Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears
Precision Latching: This specific size is a favourite for battery compartment covers and robot panels. The 6mm thickness gives it enough "meat" to be handled easily but is slim enough to stay low-profile.
Safe Separation: To avoid chipping, never try to pull these magnets apart. Instead, slide the top magnet sideways off the stack.
Fragility Alert: Neodymium is a brittle material. If two magnets snap together from a distance, the impact energy can cause them to shatter or chip. Always maintain a firm grip and bring them together slowly.
Adhesive Advice: For a permanent fix, use a thick gel-based cyanoacrylate or a two-part epoxy. Scuffing the smooth nickel surface slightly with fine sandpaper can drastically improve the bond strength.
