The 74LS02 Quad 2-Input NOR Gate IC is a fundamental digital logic component containing four independent NOR gates within a single 14-pin package. Each gate performs the Boolean function $Y = \overline{A + B}$, meaning the output is HIGH (1) only when both inputs are LOW (0). If any input is HIGH, the output immediately switches to LOW. Utilizing Low-power Schottky (LS) technology, this IC provides high-speed logical operations with significantly reduced power consumption compared to the original 74 series. It is a "universal" logic building block often used in SR latches, oscillators, and complex combinational logic circuits.

The "All Low" Logic: CRITICAL: Remember that a NOR gate output only goes HIGH when all inputs are LOW. This makes it exceptionally useful for "Zero-Detection" circuits or as an active-high trigger that only fires when a system is completely idle.
Unique Pinout Warning: Unlike the 74LS08 (AND) or 74LS32 (OR), the 74LS02 has a different internal gate arrangement. Specifically, the Output for the first gate is on Pin 1, while the Inputs are on Pins 2 and 3. Always refer to the pinout diagram before wiring to avoid logic errors.
Creating an SR Latch: You can create a basic memory element (Flip-Flop) by cross-coupling two NOR gates from this IC. This is the foundation of digital memory and debouncing switches.
Avoid Floating Inputs: Never leave unused input pins floating. Floating pins act as antennas and can lead to erratic switching and increased power draw. Connect unused inputs to Ground (GND).
