Product Description The CR1616 is an ultra-slim, high-energy 3V lithium coin cell designed for devices where space is a critical constraint. Despite its thin profile of only 1.6mm, it delivers a steady 3V output with high energy density. This battery is commonly used in precision electronics such as digital watches, car key fobs (notably for Honda and Mazda), glucose monitors, and small remote controls. Its lithium chemistry ensures reliable performance across a wide temperature range and an exceptionally long shelf life, making it a dependable backup power source.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears * The Solder Warning: Never attempt to solder wires directly to a coin cell. The heat from a soldering iron will damage the internal seals and can cause the lithium cell to vent or explode. Always use a CR1616 battery holder or cells with pre-welded solder tabs.

  • Low-Power IoT: The CR1616 is excellent for "Deep Sleep" projects using the ESP32 or ATTiny85 where the device wakes up once an hour to send data. However, if your project draws more than 10-20mA continuously (like a bright LED or Wi-Fi transmission), the voltage will sag quickly due to the battery's high internal resistance.

  • Polarity Identification: The large, smooth top surface marked with the "+" is the Positive terminal. The textured, smaller side is the Negative (-) terminal.

  • Clean Contacts: When replacing this battery in a key fob, avoid touching the flat surfaces with your bare fingers. Skin oils can create a resistive layer over time; use a clean cloth or plastic tweezers to keep the contacts pristine.
