Product Description
The CD4017BE is a high-speed CMOS 5-stage Johnson counter with 10 decoded outputs and a carry-out bit. This versatile Integrated Circuit is designed to "count" incoming clock pulses and sequentially turn on one of its ten outputs. Only one output is HIGH at any given time, creating a "chasing" effect that is a staple in LED sequence flasher circuits, binary-to-decimal decoders, and frequency dividers. Unlike TTL counters, the CD4017 operates over a wide voltage range (up to 18V), making it exceptionally robust for automotive electronics, industrial timers, and battery-powered hobbyist projects.
Key Features
10 Decoded Outputs: Provides a direct interface for up to 10 LEDs or transistors without needing external decoding logic.
Fully Static Operation: Holds the current count indefinitely as long as power is supplied, even if the clock signal stops.
Wide Supply Voltage: Operates reliably from 3V to 18V, allowing it to be powered by anything from a Lithium cell to a 12V lead-acid battery.
High Noise Immunity: As a CMOS device, it features excellent resistance to external electrical interference.
Carry-Out Signal: Includes a "Carry" pin to easily cascade multiple CD4017 ICs for counting to 100, 1000, or beyond.
