Product Description The 5mm Red Diffused LED is the universal standard for "Stop," "Power," or "Error" indicators in electronic circuits. Featuring a red-tinted frosted lens, this LED provides a soft, wide-angle glow that is easily identifiable from multiple angles without being blinding. Unlike "water-clear" LEDs that act like tiny spotlights, the diffused casing ensures the entire dome illuminates evenly. Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Indicator Logic: Red LEDs have the lowest forward voltage requirements (1.8V – 2.0V). When powering from an Arduino (5V), we recommend a 220Ω to 330Ω resistor for a standard indicator brightness.

  • 3.7V Battery Power: To run these from a Li-ion or Li-Po battery, use a 100Ω to 120Ω resistor. This safely manages the voltage gap as the battery moves from 3.7V to 4.2V, ensuring the red color remains consistent.

  • The "Power" Light: This is the best LED for a "Main Power" indicator. Connect it directly after your power switch (with a resistor) to give immediate visual feedback that your robot is live.

  • Panel Mounting: If you are building a custom chassis, use a 5mm plastic LED holder to secure these into your panel. The diffused lens is superior for panels because it remains visible even when viewed from the side as the robot turns.
