Product Description The TP4056 Type-C Charging Module is a sophisticated linear charger for single-cell lithium-ion batteries, now upgraded with a modern Type-C USB interface. Unlike basic charging boards, this "protection" version includes a dedicated battery management circuit (DW01A and 8205A) that guards against over-charging, over-discharging, and over-current scenarios. This makes it an all-in-one solution for safely adding rechargeable power to DIY electronics, allowing you to charge the battery via USB and power your project simultaneously through the dedicated output pads.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • 9V Battery Use: Never connect a 9V battery directly to the input of this module; the max input is 5.5V. To use a 9V battery as a source, you must use a 7805 Voltage Regulator or a Buck Converter to step down to 5V first.

  • 18650 Cell: This is the industry-standard module for 18650 cells. Simply connect the battery to B+ and B-. For best results, keep the wires short to minimize resistance during high-current 1A charging.

  • IC & Capacitor Tip: If your module gets very hot during 1A charging, solder a small Aluminum Heatsink onto the top of the TP4056 chip. Additionally, placing a 10uF Ceramic Capacitor across the OUT+ and OUT- pins can help stabilize power for sensitive microcontrollers like the ESP32.
