The ULN2003 Motor Driver IC acts as a high-current "bridge" between logic-level devices and heavy-duty actuators. Each of the seven channels features an NPN Darlington pair with a high voltage rating and common-cathode clamp diodes for inductive load transient suppression. The inputs are specifically designed to be compatible with standard TTL or 5V CMOS logic, allowing direct connection to Arduino, 8051, or PIC microcontrollers without the need for additional current-limiting resistors. Whether you are building a CNC machine, an automated curtain system, or a simple relay driver circuit, the ULN2003 provides a compact and reliable power stage.

Managing the "COM" Pin: When driving inductive loads like relays or motors, always connect Pin 9 to the positive supply voltage ($V+)$ of the load. This activates the internal protection diodes to safely dissipate the inductive kickback.
Heat Dissipation: Although each channel is rated for 500mA, the total package power dissipation is limited. If you are driving all seven channels at once, keep the current per channel below 150-200mA to prevent the IC from overheating.
Parallel Driving: To drive a 1A load, you can tie Input 1 and Input 2 together, and tie Output 1 and Output 2 together. This effectively doubles the current capacity while sharing the thermal load across two Darlington pairs.
