FAQ
1. What does the Smart Dustbin project do?
The project automatically opens a model dustbin lid when a hand or object is detected near the ultrasonic sensor.
2. Is the Arduino included?
Yes.
The kit includes:
1 × Arduino UNO Compatible Board
3. Is the Arduino pre-programmed?
Yes.
The Arduino supplied with the RoboGears kit is pre-programmed / ready programmed, so coding is not required for initial operation.
4. Which sensor is used?
The kit includes:
1 × HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor
It is used for non-contact distance/object detection.
5. Which motor opens the lid?
The kit uses a micro servo motor to operate the model dustbin lid.
6. Is the dustbin/container included?
No.
The current standard package does not list a dustbin/container.
The customer needs to provide or build a suitable lightweight container and lid.
7. Is a 9V battery included?
The current package includes a 9V battery snap connector, but a 9V battery itself is not listed as included.
8. Is the USB cable included?
Yes.
The current package includes 1 × USB cable.
9. Does the project require physical contact?
No.
The HC-SR04 detects an approaching object using ultrasonic distance measurement, allowing touchless operation.
10. Does it detect only a human hand?
No.
The HC-SR04 detects objects according to distance and ultrasonic reflection. Any suitable object entering the programmed detection zone may trigger the system.
11. Do I need coding knowledge?
No coding is required for initial operation because the Arduino is supplied pre-programmed.
Arduino programming is useful if you want to modify the project's behaviour later.
12. Can I change the detection distance?
The project logic can be modified through Arduino programming to use a different trigger distance.
The practical result also depends on sensor placement and target characteristics.
13. Can I change how long the lid remains open?
Yes, the behaviour can be modified through the Arduino program.
14. Can I use a heavy dustbin lid?
A lightweight lid is recommended.
The supplied micro servo should not be overloaded with a heavy or mechanically difficult lid.
15. Why does the servo make noise or struggle?
Possible causes include:
Disconnect power and correct the mechanical setup rather than forcing the servo.
16. Is assembly required?
Yes.
This is a DIY project kit. Wiring, sensor mounting, servo installation, mechanical setup and testing are required.
17. Can the components be reused?
Yes. The Arduino, HC-SR04 and servo can be reused in many compatible Arduino, robotics and automation experiments.
Important Note
This kit is intended for educational, DIY, STEM and prototyping applications.
The supplied Arduino is pre-programmed / ready programmed, so coding is not required for initial operation. Mechanical assembly, wiring, sensor positioning, servo mounting and testing are still required.
The dustbin/container itself is not part of the standard package.
Actual component colour, PCB revision or equivalent hardware appearance may vary according to available stock while maintaining the intended project functionality.
