Product Description The 12V-40V 10A PWM DC Motor Speed Controller is a high-efficiency regulator designed to control the speed of DC motors using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). Unlike simple variable resistors, this controller maintains high torque even at low speeds by rapidly switching the power on and off. It features a rugged design with a large heatsink and a 10A fuse for overcurrent protection. The integrated potentiometer includes a "click" off position, making it an all-in-one solution for adjusting fan speeds, dimming high-power LED strips, or controlling small electric vehicle motors.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • 9V Battery Use: Do not use a 9V battery. This controller is rated for 12V-40V. A 9V battery will not have enough voltage or current to drive a 10A controller and will likely result in the motor stuttering or the controller failing to start.

  • 18650 Cell: For portable high-power use, we recommend a 4S 18650 Li-ion pack (14.8V). This provides a stable voltage well within the controller's range and supports the high current needed for 10A motors.

  • IC & Capacitor Tip: If you are using this to control a high-inductance motor, add a large 1000uF 50V Electrolytic Capacitor across the input power terminals to prevent voltage spikes from damaging the PWM IC. Always check the fuse if the controller suddenly stops working.
