FAQ
1. What does this project do?
The project automatically monitors the soil moisture condition and controls a water pump according to the programmed moisture threshold.
It demonstrates an automatic plant-watering / smart irrigation system.
2. Is the Arduino included?
Yes.
The kit includes:
1 × Arduino UNO SMD Compatible Board
3. Is the Arduino pre-programmed?
Yes.
The Arduino supplied with the RoboGears kit is pre-programmed / ready programmed, so coding is not required for initial operation.
4. Which sensor is used?
The kit uses a soil moisture sensor module to detect the moisture condition of the soil.
5. Is the water pump included?
Yes.
The kit includes:
1 × DC Mini Water Pump
6. Is the relay included?
Yes.
The package includes:
1 × 5V Relay Module
The relay acts as the switching interface used by the Arduino to control the water pump.
7. Are batteries included?
Yes.
The current kit includes:
2 × 18650 Li-ion Batteries
and
1 × Battery Holder
8. Is an 18650 battery charger included?
No.
The current RoboGears listing specifically states that the battery charger is not included.
9. Is the water pipe included?
Yes.
The current package includes 1 × Water Pipe for the irrigation project.
10. Does the pump connect directly to the Arduino?
The pump should be operated through the appropriate switching/power circuit using the supplied relay module.
Do not attempt to power a DC pump directly from an Arduino GPIO pin.
11. Do I need coding knowledge?
No coding is required for initial operation when using the supplied pre-programmed Arduino.
Arduino programming becomes useful if you want to modify the moisture threshold or change the project's behaviour.
12. Does the moisture threshold need calibration?
Yes.
Different soil conditions can produce different sensor readings.
The threshold should be tested and calibrated according to the soil and sensor used in the project.
13. Can I use this for a real plant?
Yes, it can demonstrate automatic watering with a real plant, provided the project is assembled and calibrated correctly and the electronics are protected from water.
However, this remains an educational DIY/prototyping system, not a commercial agricultural irrigation controller.
14. Can I change the Arduino program?
Yes.
The Arduino is compatible with the Arduino IDE and can be reprogrammed for further experimentation.
15. Is assembly required?
Yes.
This is a DIY kit. Mechanical setup, wiring, water-pipe connection, sensor placement, calibration and testing are required.
16. Is this an IoT project?
The standard kit demonstrates automatic Arduino-based irrigation.
The current package does not list a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM or other network-communication module. Therefore, remote internet monitoring/control should not be advertised as a standard included feature.
Additional communication hardware and programming can be added separately for advanced IoT experimentation.
Important Note
This kit is intended for educational, DIY, STEM and prototyping applications.
Keep the Arduino, relay, batteries and electrical connections away from water.
The supplied Arduino is pre-programmed / ready programmed, so coding is not required for initial operation. Assembly, wiring, soil-sensor calibration and testing are still required.
Actual component colour, PCB revision or equivalent hardware appearance may vary depending on available stock while maintaining the intended project functionality.
