Powering the Arduino: This adapter is ideal for powering an Arduino via the DC barrel jack. However, note that when using the DC jack, the Arduino's internal regulator needs at least 7V for optimal 5V output. For a 5V adapter like this, it is often more efficient to power the Arduino directly through the 5V and GND pins (if your circuit is regulated) or via a DC Jack to USB-B/Micro-USB adapter.
Current Consumption Check: This is a 1A (1000mA) adapter. If your project includes multiple servos or high-brightness LED arrays that draw more than 800mA continuously, consider upgrading to a 5V 2A version to prevent the adapter from overheating or the voltage from dropping ("sagging").
Polarity Verification: CRITICAL: While most 5V electronics are "Center Positive," always verify the polarity icon on your device's power port. Connecting a 5V supply with reversed polarity can instantly destroy microcontrollers and integrated circuits.
Voltage Drop over Distance: If you extend the DC cable more than 2-3 meters using thin wires, you will experience a "Voltage Drop." A 5V signal can easily drop to 4.7V over a long run, which may cause Wi-Fi modules (like the ESP8266) to become unstable. Use thicker gauge wire for any extensions.
Breadboard Integration: To use this adapter with a standard breadboard, we recommend using a 5.5mm Female DC Power Jack to Screw Terminal Adapter. This allows you to securely connect jumper wires to your breadboard power rails without cutting the original cable.
