Product Description The 5mm Water Clear Blue LED is engineered for projects that demand a sharp, high-intensity point of light. Unlike diffused LEDs that glow softly, this "water-clear" version features a completely transparent lens that allows the blue light to pass through with maximum brilliance and zero scattering. When off, the LED is colorless and stealthy; when powered on, it emits a powerful, focused beam of deep blue light. This makes it the top choice for decorative accent lighting, high-visibility beacons, and sci-fi robotics where a "spotlight" effect is required.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • The "Spotlight" Advantage: Because the lens is clear, this LED acts like a tiny flashlight. If you need a wide-angle status light, use our diffused version; if you want a sharp, bright beam that travels further, this is the one for you.

  • Voltage Logic: Blue LEDs require a higher forward voltage (3.0V – 3.4V) than red or yellow LEDs. When using an Arduino (5V), we recommend a 150Ω to 220Ω resistor. Use 150Ω for maximum brightness or 220Ω for better power efficiency and cooler operation.

  • 3.7V Battery Matching: These LEDs are a perfect pair for 3.7V Lithium-Ion batteries. Since the battery can reach 4.2V when full, use a 47Ω resistor to protect the internal chip while maintaining peak brightness.

  • Edge-Lighting Trick: These clear LEDs are amazing for "Edge-Lighting" acrylic. If you shine this LED into the edge of a clear plastic sheet, any scratches or etched logos on the surface will glow brilliantly in blue!
