Product Description The 8mm Yellow Straw Hat LED provides a warm, high-intensity golden light with an exceptionally wide dispersion angle. Featuring a unique low-profile "Straw Hat" lens, this LED is designed to spread its light across a 120-degree field, effectively eliminating the narrow "spotlight" effect of traditional round-top LEDs. The crystal-clear epoxy housing ensures high light transmission and a sharp, clean aesthetic. These LEDs are the top choice for automotive indicators, emergency signal lights, solar garden lamps, and custom robotics where a broad, amber-yellow glow is required.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Warning Indicators: Because of the wide viewing angle, these are the best choice for caution lights on a robot. The light remains visible even if the observer is standing far to the side of the machine.

  • Resistor Matching: Yellow LEDs typically operate at a lower voltage (2.0V – 2.2V) than white or blue LEDs. For a 5V power source, we recommend using a 150Ω to 220Ω resistor to ensure a safe 20mA current flow.

  • Uniform Backlighting: These are excellent for lighting up "Caution" or "Warning" icons on a control panel. The wide beam ensures the entire icon is lit evenly from edge to edge.

  • Mix for Contrast: Pair these with 8mm Red Straw Hat LEDs and 8mm Green Straw Hat LEDs to build a high-visibility, wide-angle traffic signal or status display.
