• Thermal Management: CRITICAL: Even at 5A, the BTA12 will generate approximately 7-8 Watts of heat. You must use an appropriately sized Aluminum Heatsink. If the device becomes too hot to touch, its lifespan will be significantly shortened, or it may fail in a "shorted" state.

• Inductive Load Protection: When using this Triac to control a fan or a transformer, the current and voltage waves get out of sync. To prevent accidental re-triggering, install a Snubber Network (a 100Ω resistor and 0.1µF 400V capacitor) across Main Terminal 1 (MT1) and Main Terminal 2 (MT2).

• Isolation for Safety: While the tab is insulated, the three pins are still carrying high-voltage AC. Use Heat-shrink Tubing on the leads to prevent accidental contact with other components or the enclosure.

• Opto-Isolation: To control this Triac with a 5V microcontroller like an Arduino, always use a Triac-Driver Optocoupler (e.g., MOC3021). This keeps the dangerous 220V AC circuit completely isolated from your low-voltage DC logic.

• Gate Resistor Selection: Use a resistor (typically 330Ω to 470Ω) between your optocoupler output and the Triac gate to limit the trigger current and ensure reliable switching.
