Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

• Controlling Speed and Direction: To control this motor with an Arduino or ESP32, use an H-Bridge driver like the L298N or L293D. By using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), you can smoothly vary the speed from 0 to 300 RPM.

• Shaft Attachment: Since the shaft is circular, it is highly recommended to use a 6mm Hub with a Grub Screw to attach wheels. For high-torque tasks, filing a small "Flat" (D-shape) onto one side of the shaft will prevent the wheel from slipping under heavy loads.

• Current Spikes: DC motors draw significantly more current when starting or when stalled (blocked from spinning). Ensure your power supply can handle at least 2 Amps of "Peak" current to prevent your control electronics from resetting.

• Mounting Orientation: Avoid applying heavy "Axial" loads (pushing or pulling directly along the shaft). This can prematurely wear out the gearbox. Always support the load using bearings if the motor is carrying the weight of a heavy robot.

• Noise Suppression: DC motors generate "Electrical Noise" (EMI) that can interfere with sensors. Solder a small 0.1uF Ceramic Capacitor across the motor terminals to suppress these sparks and stabilize your microcontroller's performance.
